Kathmandu – A 270-megawatt semi-reservoir-based hydropower project is slated for development on the Bheri River, spanning Nalgadh municipality in Jajarkot and Aathbiskot municipality in Rukum West. China Gezhouba Group Company Limited will undertake the project.
Discussions on the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) Report were held today at the Ministry of Forests and Environment. Ministry Joint-Secretary Dhirendra Kumar Pradhan emphasized minimizing impacts on local biodiversity, livelihoods, and indigenous communities. The EIA report is a crucial scientific and legal document for sustainable project operation.
The project will utilize 24.75 hectares of land and require the removal of 152 trees. A 38-meter-high dam will store water for six hours. With an estimated cost of Rs 46 billion, the project is expected to be completed in five years. Its powerhouse will be located in Jyamire, Rukum West, connected by a seven-kilometer tunnel. Additionally, an 11-kilometer auxiliary route and three Bailey bridges will be constructed to access the site.
