Kathmandu – Iran has reported that 54 seafarers have been killed, 66 injured and seven remain missing in maritime incidents linked to the ongoing conflict and related maritime restrictions.
Speaking at the 76th session of the International Maritime Organization’s Technical Cooperation Committee, Iran said 360 vessels had been affected, including 253 that were sunk or completely destroyed.
The country also reported that 28 seafarers were taken hostage, with five still in captivity. Iran said the conflict has disrupted port operations, search and rescue services, communications systems and maritime safety infrastructure.
It also reported damage to key maritime facilities and blamed U.S.-related shipping restrictions for disrupting commercial shipping and navigation.
